About 1.24 million pounds of Italian sausage products have been recalled for potential Salmonella contamination.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service was altered while investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Montevideo illness. About 187 cases were confirmed in 37 states with 30 in California, including six in Los Angles County. No one has dies.
The exact source of the outbreak was not immediately identified but a sample of ready-to-eat products produced by Rhode Island-based Daniele International Inc. tested positive for Salmonella. However, a direct link has not been established and the matter still is under investigation.
Daniele International has voluntarily recalled all of its products associated with black pepper, which may be the source of contamination.
Consumers are asked not to eat those food products and to keep them refrigerated until returned or disposed of properly.
Details: call (888) 345-4160 or visit Daniele Foods Website or USDA Recall Notice.
