San Pedro Chamber of Commerce Board Members approved, Dec. 8, the Knoll Hill Preferred Conceptual Plan.
The Knoll Hill Conceptual Plan Project recently moved into the Creating the Preferred Design Phase of the planning process.
As the last undeveloped waterfront hill in the city, Knoll Hill Steering Committee members said sought a project that reflects the needs and desires of the community.
The Meléndez Design Firm created a preferred design alternative based on feedback from the Project Steering Committee and community meeting input.
The design included trails, sculptural lighting, native gardens, picnic areas, a multipurpose open field sized to fit two little league baseball fields, a civic space with a performance state, a food service facility, a landscaped parking area and a nature and exploratory play area.
The Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative stated that they had more than 300 stakeholders participated in the process.
Some community members supported a plan that included a baseball diamond with removable fences. Others weren't so thrilled with the idea, noting that this would mean that one of the parks current and most controversial occupants, Eastview Little League's stay at Knoll Hill would be indefinitely extended despite last year's negotiated settlement that they find a new location in three years.
