Even though everyone is saying there is only one US administration working at this time (and on the surface it doesn’t seem to be the one in the White House), what really appears to be happening is that there are actually two administrations working in tandem, but opposite directions. The arrest of the Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich on the surface, seems like just one more example of corrupt Chicago machine politics– five of the last ten governors have been arrested over the last 50 years. We should be so lucky in California!
Even if the allegations are proven true, one does have to question the timing of the FBI and the much-heralded Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation––a figure you remember from the Valerie Plame investigation into just what happened in Dick Cheney’s office that nailed Scooter Libby (although Karl Rove was allowed to amend his testimony at the last minute and avoid prosecution for lying).
The Justice Department and the FBI have not exactly been partisan free lately, nor has justice been executed blindly over the past several years, with political prosecutions being the item of the day. Should we not expect that targeting a prominent Chicago politician right at the height of Obama’s transition isn’t as partisan as the DOJ can get?
The word from inside the beltway is that while the economy is left to collapse of its own weight and stupidity, the Bushites are busy placing their political appointees into secure positions inside of the government bureaucracies. These Bush operatives, strategically placed, will be the “inside traitors” to achieving any true change by the Obama team. These are not the ones who believe in the “bipartisanship” of the new presidency, or think of change as good, and who will in the end sabotage him at every step.
Next is former Florida Governor and younger brother of George Bush II, Jeb, who was recently interviewed by Newsmax, a neocon “news service’ that doles out partisan propaganda from the right. Recently, Jeb offered up this perspective, “That the GOP must broaden its appeal to avoid becoming the ‘the old white-guy party’ and recommends that the Republicans create a ‘shadow government’ to engage the Democrats on important issues.” Now it seems to me that operating a “shadow government” is practically a family business for the Bush’s’ starting with George senior who came into the White House after being CIA director and then pleaded ignorance as VP under Reagan of the Iran Contra deal. It now seems and will probably be verified much later, that the regime of George Bush-the-lesser (as I believe he will be remembered in history) has been mostly played out in the shadows. Secret, covert government has been the hallmark of Republican Presidents since Nixon!
The catastrophe that awaits us is already here. The neocons have tanked the “free market” economy thereby sabotaging any efforts for America to attain a social-democracy with contemporary values on universal health care, enhanced workers’ rights and/or regulating the monetary and corporate markets which have been so thoroughly pillaged by our great capitalists–think of Sam Zell, AIG and GM when reading this. Obama already has an impossible Sysiphusian task of rolling this country if not the world forward, while being undermined both inside of government and outside by the “true believers of free trade and small government.”
Sadly, for Obama, he will have to learn the hard way exactly how insidiously partisan his opposition is as he touts “bi-partisanship” as a cure all to what ails America. And it may well be his saving grace that he has appointed both Rham Emanuel and Hillary Clinton to his team, as they suffer no delusions here. Will they be enough to offset the tactics of the shadow government, that I assert are already in play to derail the Obama revolution?
Contrary to the overwhelming turnout of this last election supporting Obama and his undeniable victory that couldn’t be stolen, Jeb Bush and many partisan loyalists still believe that the United States remains “basically a center-right country.” And they aim to prove this to be true over the next four to eight years.
Under optimal conditions the Obama Presidency would return America to its former Liberal New Deal ideals, but I fear that the campaign just to get him elected is but the first battle in the political war to take back this country and to have it really believe in itself once again. The conditions are far from optimal for this to easily take place; it would seem that the concepts of liberty and justice are separated like never before.
Even as the majority of the nation is relieved to be done with the Bush/Cheney regime, my greatest fear is that they will not be gone until they are prosecuted for their crimes against this Republic and humanity in general. They will cast a shadow into this new government even in their absence and bipartisanship will only get them off the hook.
