On August 1, Christopher “Kid” Reid will be performing as part of K. Michael Productions and SW Suits of Carson House Party Comedy Slam! Tour at the Carson Community Center.
Most Gen Xer’s would remember his extreme hi-top fade hairstyle and the dance moves the he and Play performed during their early music careers. He has appeared on a number of television shows, including “Martin” and “Sister, Sister,” and has served as the host of amateur contest shows such as Your Big Break and “It's Showtime at the Apollo.”
Through each incarnation from hip hop star, to actor on both the small and big screens to game show host, he’s has taken his craft as entertainer to a new stage as stand-up comedian.
In a phone interview, Reid was asked if it were strange looking back on a career that began twenty years ago, he reflected, “It can be a little weird looking at old footage of your self. It’s me but sometimes it feels like a different person or a different life. But I enjoy doing it. We're glad that people still gravitate toward it to this day. Whether it be the camaraderie or the dancing or the hairstyles or fashion whatever levels our fans connected with we are very grateful for that.”
The House Party Comedy Slam! Tour is an extension of K. Michael Moore work to assist communities afflicted with violence by bringing laughter and raising funds for community groups working to make a difference.
“I think Carson needs the message [of peace] as much as anybody. I just want to bring peace to the community through laughter and show by example to the kids that we can get together without hurting each other,” Moore explained. “This show is intended to help the kids albeit indirectly, but we aim to bring some joy.”
The comedy show is a fundraiser to benefit community organizations Save the Babies, Kalicoat Kids & Operation Touchdown Alongside Reid in the line up will be Tiffany Haddish from the TV show, “Who Got Jokes,” Edwin San Juan from Byron Allan’s Comics Unleashed, and Ruben Paul from HBO’s Def Comedy Jam. Tommy Chunn from the Bob Hope’s USO Comedy Tour will host the show.
Tickets are $25 for general admission, $35 VIP, $300 VIP table includes wine food and photo. |
