Kudos to you for your very well written editorial [ACE District Rising, May 15 RL] and especially for trying once again to respond rationally and at length to Richard Pawlowski and his particular urban design visions. I know that many in the community are very frustrated with having to listen to his one-way diatribes at every public meeting in town to people “who do not know what is good for them.” I know that Mr. Pawlowski himself will never be swayed by actual principals of urban design, nor by the excellent arguments you made. I do hope that your readers who may be neither urban design professionals nor serious amateur landscape architects will now have more of a conceptual tool-kit to describe what is wrong with Pawlowski's plan to transform Pedro into “something entirely different.” His is the sort of thinking that was responsible for razing Beacon Street and many of our historic structures in the 70's. Let's build on our strengths, not destroy the fragile urban fabric we have left!
Sue Castillo San Pedro, Calif.
Thank you Sue, What amazes me is how politely quiet people are around Powlowki as if they're afraid he’ll just explode. On the other hand San Pedro does have a high tolerance for the strange but why is it that we always get residents of Rancho Palos Verdes telling San Pedro what we should build? If they really have nothing better to do up the hill maybe they should just re-annex themselves to the city of LA!
