Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony
Please join Councilman Joe Buscaino for the annual Holiday Tree Lighting event, from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 5, at Pepper Tree Plaza.
Enjoy real snow, carolers and the Dana Middle School Marching Band, among other things.

Dec. 7
Iowa Honors Pearl Harbor Survivors, San Pedro Fleet
Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day will be observed at Battleship IOWA at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 7.
The event will include a ceremony to honor those who lost their lives and survived the attacks on that day 72 years ago. San Pedro and Battleship Iowa are both tied to that moment in history: Many of the ships that were involved in the attack had been stationed in San Pedro from 1921 until being moved to Pearl Harbor when tensions were escalating.
Ceremony is free. Ship Tours: $18 adults, $10 youth, $15 senior citizens

Dec. 7
Holiday Hoedown and Ranch-Style Breakfast with Santa
From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dec. 7, family and friends will gather at Rancho Los Alamitos to create holiday memories at the Rancho’s Holiday Hoedown and Breakfast with Santa.
The event includes western music presented by the California Cowboy Band, holiday games, crafts and activities. Barnyard animals will be waiting in their corrals to receive visits from children and their families. Pony rides will be available for an extra fee.
The ticket price includes parking, breakfast, entertainment and participation in activities and crafts. Admission is $15 for adults ($12 for members) and $10 for children ($8.00 for members’ children and grandchildren). This program is designed for families with children 12 years of age and younger.
Free parking is at CSULB Lot 11A at Palo Verde Avenue and Rendina Street with continuous handicap accessible shuttle service to the Rancho.

Victorian Christmas Celebration
The community is invited to welcome in the holiday season at aVictorian Christmas celebration and open house, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 7 and 8, at The Banning Museum in Wilmington.
Visitors will enjoy period entertainment, tours of the Museum decorated in holiday splendor, refreshments, a children’s Victorian craft and a horse-drawn trolley ride between The Banning Museum and Drum Barracks Civil War Museum.

LGB2Network Cheers to the Holidays
Celebrate the Holidays with your friends from the LGB2Network and support a great cause by bringing unwrapped toy or gift for children in need, from 7 to 10 p.m. Dec. 11 at Sababa in Long Beach .
This year, LGB2Network has partnered with Miller Children’s Hospital to bring some holiday cheer to families of critically ill patients who might not otherwise be able to afford Christmas gifts for their children.

It’s Snow Much Fun

Tidepool Wonders
Explore low tides on the rocky shore with Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Dec. 14 and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 15.
Bring family and friends to the aquarium’s John M. Olguin Auditorium for an informative slide show, followed by a Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Education Staff led walk to the nearby Point Fermin Tidepools.

Dec. 14
Cabrillo Marine Aquarium staff will offer a holiday workshop to teach participants Gyotaku, the ancient art of Japanese fish printing, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dec. 14 in the marine laboratory.
The lab will double as an artist’s studio where beginners and experienced fish printers can create one of a kind holiday gifts.  After a brief introduction to this Japanese art form, participants will select from a variety of local fish, paints and brushes that will be provided in class.
Participants may bring: t-shirts, aprons, towels, pillow cases or specialty papers they wish to print on to create gifts for themselves or others.
This workshop is limited to participants 10 years of age and older. The workshop fee is $18 ($16 FRIENDS member) per person.  Pre-registration is required as space is limited.

Salt Marsh Open House
Marshes are more than mud.  Step out into nature at the Salinas de San Pedro salt marsh, from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 21.
Bring your binoculars, camera, sketch pad, journal or just your curiosity. Discover the many animal residents of the salt marsh with guidance from Sea Ranger naturalists and Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Educators.
