SWAT Team Arrest Barricaded Man – San Pedro

After about 13 hours of waiting, the Los Angeles SWAT team raided a San Pedro house where a 61-year-old man was barricaded.

The SWAT team used flashbangs and distraction rounds to keep the suspect under pressure while they made an entry.The man was ultimately subdued with bean bag rounds. A weapon was recovered from the scene, officials said.

At about 8 p.m. April 23,  police blocked off about of block radius around 7th
and Meyler streets, directly across from Mary Star of the Sea Church.

Police arrived in the area after they received a report that a suspect had fired a shot at someone. The suspect missed.

The suspect’s female cousin owns the home. She was also in the house during the raid. They were both in communication with the police before the raid took place. Though no demands were made.

According to Sgt. Rudy Lopez, the late night-early morning altercation was a domestic dispute. The dispute took place at the home of the suspect’s cousin. Apparently, the suspect fired on his cousin’s acquaintance for mistreating the her.

Mary Star Elementary School and neighboring homeowners in the area were evacuated last night and were unable to return home until the scene had been cleared.

The suspect is facing an assault with a deadly weapon charge.
