Free Income Tax Preparation Event
The California State Board of Equalization in partnership with Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal’s office is hosting a free income tax preparation event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 9, at Cal State Long Beach’s College of Business Administration building.
The event includes free tax preparation, low cost and free medical services, job preparation assistance, food and nutrition service, discount telephone service and low-cost auto insurance.
Language assistance in English, Spanish, and Chinese will be provided.

San Pedro Chamber Seeks Honorary Mayor
Applications are available to become the honorary mayor of San Pedro.
The candidate raising the most funds for his or her selected nonprofit will win the title and represent the chamber at community events and meetings. About 80 percent of raised funds go to sponsored organizations and campaign costs.

Proposed Ban on Single-Use Shopping Bags
A meeting is scheduled, at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 19, to receive public comments on a draft environmental impact report for a proposed ban on single-use shopping bags at the Wilmington Recreation Center.
The City of Los Angeles is proposing to adopt and implement an ordinance to ban single-use plastic carryout bags, charge a fee on paper bags, and promote the use of reusable bags at specified retailers in the City of Los Angeles.
The analysis in the Draft EIR concluded that the proposed project would not result in any significant adverse impacts on the environment. However, it would result in beneficial impacts on air quality, biological resources, and hydrology and water quality.
The Draft EIR is available for public review from until March 11, 2013.  Please send your written comments no later than March 11, 2013 to Karen Coca, Division Manager, Solid Resources Citywide Recycling Division/Bureau of Sanitation, 1149 S.
